K'naan

This week's artist is a singer, rapper and poet with a message that goes by the name K'naan. K'naan is a Canadian but born in Mogadishu, Somalia. He got his start back in 2001 doing spoken word engagement for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 1999. By 2005 he had released his debut album called "The Dusty Foot Philosopher". This album earned him critical acclaim. In 2006 it earned him a Juno award for best rap recording of the year. He became mainstream at the 2008 BET awards. What brought this unique artist to my attention was his song that features Nelly Furtado called "Is Anybody There?" I think this song proves great music can have a message.
