The Weeknd

This week "Artist Of The Week" is an import from Canada who has a unique twist on R&B with a fun name. I am talking about none other than The Weeknd. This Canadian born singer was born in Scarborough, Ontario on February 16, 1990. Born Abel Tesfaye grew up listening and being inspired by to a variety of musical genres that include soul, quiet storm, hip hop and funk. In late 2010, Tesfaye uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd", though his identity was initially unknown. In 2011, he released three nine-track mixtapes, "House Of Balloons","Thursday "and "Echoes Of Silence",which were critically acclaimed. The Weeknd has received praise from several music publications, including MTV, BET  MTV's John Norris has dubbed him the "songbird of his generation" and the "best musical talent since Micheal Jackson. If that is not a enough to peak your interest he also has gotten the seal of approval from fellow Canadian hip hop artist "Drake" who help to gain The Weeknd attention. The Weeknd is currently signed to Universal Republic Records and his own label called XO. What got my attention was his song called "Wicked Games" So take a listen and tell me what you think.
