Of Mice and Men
Happy Wednesday!
I hope everyone has had a great week so far and has an even more amazing
weekend planned. It is that time once again when we get down to business and
pick another up and coming music artist that I feel has the potential to do
great things in the music world. So lets dive right in and get to know this
week's Artist Of The Week!
This weeks Artist Of The Week comes from a band
who I feel can make any person a fan of Folk music and trust me they have a
unique name that just might make you want to stop and listen and find out what
they are all about. The name of this very talented band is Of Mice and Men.
Of Mice and Men is a five-piece, English-language, indie
folk/pop band from Iceland, formed in 2010. The members are lead
singer/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir,
co-singer/guitarist Ragnar "Raggi" Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar
Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson and bassist Kristján Páll
Kristjánsson. The band won the Músíktilraunir in 2010, an annual battle of the bands
competition in Iceland. The band's debut album My Head Is an Animal (2011), reached the
No.1 position in Australia, Iceland, Ireland and the US Rock and Alternative
Charts, while peaking at No. 6 on the US Billboard
200 album chart, No. 3 in the UK. Its lead single "Little Talk” was an international success, reaching the Top 10 in
most music charts in Europe, including No.1 in Ireland and Iceland, and No. 1
on US Alternative Charts. Of Mice and
Men is currently signed to Record Records, Universal Republic.
What I love
about the band Of Mice and Men is
that you can tell that even through they are a folk inspired band you can tell
a lot of other musical styles help to influence and help mold their sound. When
I listen to their music I her and feel a slight Blues influence. I think they
put a very unique spin on Folk music that can make anyone give the very unique
musical style a chance. So Take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember

The Saturdays
I
hope everyone has had a great week so far! It is Wednesday once again so it is
time to pick another Artist of the Week. This week I have chosen another import
from the U.K. A girl group that goes by the clever name The Saturdays. This
girl includes group members Mollie King, Una Healy, Vanessa White, Frankie
Sandford and Rochelle Humes. The
Saturdays were formed in 2007 after holding auditions to become a member of the
group. The group was put together through the record label Polydor
Records, which meant they would have an instant record, deal and were
signed to Fascination Records, a sub-label of Polydor. The
band began recording their debut album while touring with Girls Aloud
on their Tangled Up Tour. While the girls were still on
tour they released their first single called
"If This Is Love". The song charted at number
eight on the UK Singles Chart after it sold 14,990 copies in
its first week of release.[5]
The single was also the second highest new entry of the week behind Katy Perry's
"I Kissed a Girl" which debuted at number four.
Their debut album, Chasing
Lights was released in October 2008 and peaked at number 9 on the UK
Albums Chart. Later the album was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.
This success only
proved to be just the beginning to The Saturdays music industry career. Since
their debut in 2008 they released three more very successful albums. This lead
them to take that all-important leap to crossover to the U.S market. So in 2012
the group worked on their fifth overall release, it was announced that The
Saturdays had signed to Island Def Jam and Mercury
Records to release future music in the United States. “What" was
released as the bands first worldwide single. The Saturdays also star in a reality
series called Chasing The Saturdays, which premiered on
E! on 20 January
2013. The show features the group trying to make it in America. Upon its
premiere in the United Kingdom, Chasing The Saturdays became that week's
#1 most watched show with 72,000 viewers, having 10,000 more viewers than Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami.[64]
"What About Us" is knocked Justin
Timberlake's "Mirrors" off the number-one
spot on the UK Singles Chart on 24 March 2013.
What I like about
this group is that they don’t seem to be just another girl group to add to the
list of Pop girl groups. I feel they have true talent. They of course have
vocal ability to just about sing anything.
They have all the true components of becoming an iconic female
powerhouse girl group. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember

Throwback Thursday!
Happy Thursday! It is time to pick another "Throwback" video pick! This week I have chosen to pick a video that a lot of females in the music industry have looked up to and inspired them to become singers (Brandy, Christina Aguilera and Beyonce). It is none other than the late great Whitney Houston. On August 9, 2013 she would have been 50 years old. So lets take a look back in time at one of the songs that made the world fall in love with her and her amazing talent " I Want To Dance With Somebody". I hope everyone enjoys and Happy 50th Birthday Whitney Houston RIP! Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

Little Mix
This weeks "Artist Of Week" is another U.K import that came to the worlds attention thanks to Simon Cowell and a little show called "X Factor. Little Mix are a British four-piece girl group formed in 2011, consisting of members Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall.[1] They were formed exclusively for the eighth series of The X Factor,
where they became the first group entry to win in the programme's
eight-year history. Following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records. The group subsequently signed in the United States with Columbia Records. Little Mix have been branded the next Spice Girls.
What I love about this group is that when you strip down all of the bubbly pop elements they have a soulful four part harmony that is truly amazing and a true gift. Lets face it in today's music industry that is very hard to come by. What got my attention about this girl group was their song called "Wings". It is not only a great feel good up beat song it also carries a great message. So take a listen and tell me what you think.
