Happy Wednesday!
I hope everyone has had a great week so far and has an even more amazing
weekend planned. It is that time once again when we get down to business and
pick another up and coming music artist that I feel has the potential to do
great things in the music world. So lets dive right in and get to know this
week's Artist Of The Week!
This weeks Artist Of The Week comes from a band
who I feel can make any person a fan of Folk music and trust me they have a
unique name that just might make you want to stop and listen and find out what
they are all about. The name of this very talented band is Of Mice and Men.
Of Mice and Men is a five-piece, English-language, indie
folk/pop band from Iceland, formed in 2010. The members are lead
singer/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir,
co-singer/guitarist Ragnar "Raggi" Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar
Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson and bassist Kristján Páll
Kristjánsson. The band won the Músíktilraunir in 2010, an annual battle of the bands
competition in Iceland. The band's debut album My Head Is an Animal (2011), reached the
No.1 position in Australia, Iceland, Ireland and the US Rock and Alternative
Charts, while peaking at No. 6 on the US Billboard
200 album chart, No. 3 in the UK. Its lead single "Little Talk” was an international success, reaching the Top 10 in
most music charts in Europe, including No.1 in Ireland and Iceland, and No. 1
on US Alternative Charts. Of Mice and
Men is currently signed to Record Records, Universal Republic.
What I love
about the band Of Mice and Men is
that you can tell that even through they are a folk inspired band you can tell
a lot of other musical styles help to influence and help mold their sound. When
I listen to their music I her and feel a slight Blues influence. I think they
put a very unique spin on Folk music that can make anyone give the very unique
musical style a chance. So Take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember
you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just
