The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)

Hello Everyone! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. Once again I am coming to you with another informative blog post. This time around I will be discussing a very important association to the music industry, the music artist and the music that we love to listen to. The Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA) is a trade organization that supports and promotes the creativity and financial music properties of major music labels. This association is also responsible for awarding gold, platinum and diamond certification to music artist for their music selling accomplishments.

After visiting the RIAA website site I discover that it is a very informative place for people who are working or want to work within the music industry. This website keeps you up to date about current music artist music as well as the success of the current song or album by that particular music artist. Another thing I found quite interesting about this site was it works with a program called Music Matters. This program is designed to help educate consumer about music piracy. But what makes this program special so special is that it does not just educate and preach the stealing digital music is wrong. It offers fun options to find listen and purchase your favorite music artist music without stealing it.

As a person who is interested in becoming apart of the music industry that find and discover new talent and helps to bring them to the worlds attention. This is a great association and website for me to have a connection to. It will help me keep up with current music trends and keep me educated on new ways to help protect the creative work that those artists have worked so hard on from being stolen. I think anyone who is interested the music industry should check this association out. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

Savannah Berry

Hello everyone! I hope you have had a very exciting week and a exciting weekend planned. But lets start that off with another "Artist Of The Week"! This week we will step into the world of country music with a up and coming female singer by the name of Savannah Berry. Some of might remember her from season 4 of the hit show "The Voice", She made it all the way to team Blake but did not walk away with the prize. But Savannah did not let that stop her from her childhood dream becoming a music star. Savannah has been performing live since she was 8 years old when her grandmother first brought her on-stage to sing with her at a Saturday night Opry in Texas. When she was in the sixth grade, Savannah got the idea that it would be fun to videotape her performances of songs and post them on YouTube for her family and friends. Her first YouTube video was “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” and Savannah was surprised when people that she did not know started posting song requests. She did, of course, and with each posting the audience for her YouTube channel grew. In 2011 Savannah’s YouTube channel took off catching the attention of the Academy of Country Music and her favorite artists, Sugarland.Savannah jumped at the chance and met up with Sugarland at the Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Ole Opry, to record a video of the duo’s #1 hit, “Stuck Like Glue.” The video was released in March 2011. In July of 2012, Savannah independently released her first EP of five original songs, which she wrote with Nashville songwriters Zac Maloy. I think Savannah represents a true example of a true country artist. If you were not a fan of country music I think she might be the one to give you country fever. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day break and closed out the summer with a bang. But now it is time to get back to business of highlight incredible talent on the rise. This weeks "Artist Of The Week come from an artist that you may heard a little bit about because of her "King Of Pop" connection. It is none other than Judith Hill. We all came to know of this very talent young women in a very bittersweet way. Judith Glory Hill was born May 6, 1984  in Los Angeles, California. Judith's mother is a pianist from Tokyo who met Hill's father in a funk band in the 1970s. Judith is of both Japanese and African American descent. Judith can speak English and Japanese and also sing in both languages. After getting a degree in music composition from Biola University in southern California, Hill went to France in 2007 to perform with the French singer Michel Polnareff. She began a career as a singer-songwriter when she returned to the United States. In 2009 she was selected as Michael Jackson's duet partner for This Is It; she practiced for months with the pop star legend up until his death on June 25, 2009. Michael Jackson's death caused the tour to be cancelled. Along with the rest of the This Is It cast members, she performed at Jackson's memorial service at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on July 7, 2009. She attracted global attention when she sang the lead on the song "Heal the World", which was one of the climactic moments of the service. Even with this attention Judith did not feel that this her time or her place to have the spotlight shining on her and her talent. But we once again got a chance to see her amazing talent when she became a contestant on the hit show "The Voice". She was shocking voted off the show but her amazing talent captivated the world and proved that this is truly her time to shine. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Amanda Palmer: The Art Of Asking

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! This week’s post will be a little different from the normal ones that I do. I feel it was important to shine the light on a music artist in a slightly different way. So this week I viewed a TED Talk by Alt-rock icon Amanda Palmer.

In Amanda Palmer’s TED Talk she discusses how she made money before her music career took off. In her early days she work as a self employed street performer. The interesting fact about this time in her life was that it turned out it help to prepare her in furthering her music career. Once her music career started she wanted to keep some of the same tactics as her street performer days of entertaining the crowed for help in return. Throw out her tour she would put out notices using social media sources to let her fans know she was in town. They were willing to help with food and places to stay. The beauty of this was the fans did this for the pure fact they loved her music. Amanda eventually was signed to a major record label. She got the chance to release her first album. Once the album was released it was consider a failure because it only sold 25,00 copies. This turn out to be a blessing in disguise for her. When she went back on tour people where coming up to here handing her cash for music. So this encouraged her to lose her record label and use her fans back her music and the rest is history.

Amanda Palmer’s lives by the theory of not making people pay for your music. Let them. I think that this is something that the music industry has stepped away from. The music industry has become focused on making a hit song and making money. They have forgotten to respect the fans that help put the artist in the spotlight. I Think Amanda Palmer is a true example of an artist. She knows how to stick to who she is and who she wants to be as a music artist. But she also respects the music fans that put here their. I know that this is the type of artist I would not standing behind to help put them in the musical spotlight.
