Jhene Aiko

Happy Wednesday! We have once again made it to the halfway mark in the week and the weekend is fast approaching. So what better way to get over the hump in the week than another "Artist Of The Week"! This week's artist breaks the mold of what a female music artist should sound like and making music that is both seductive, classy, unique and breaking boundaries. It is a lovely female artist who goes by the name Jhene Aiko. Jhene Aiko was born on March 16, 1988 in Los Angeles, California. She started her music career singing vocals on songs for R&B group B2K and appearing in music videos. 2003 she was set to release her debut album titled "My Name Is Jhene" through the Sony music label. The project was never release and she asked to be released from her record deal. In March 2011 she Jhene made her music comeback by releasing her mixtape called "Sailing Souls. This help her to land her record deal with Artium, distributed through Def Jam Recordings in December 2011. In 2013 Jhene her EP called "Sailing Out" that included one of my favorite songs "The Worst" and "Bed Peace". She has this amazing melodic vocal tone that sucks you in. She so far away from the a typical pop princess or diva. I think that is what I love most about her. She is able to bring her sexiness and seductiveness of her lyrics in a subtle way, which makes her unique and special music artist. Jhene's latest album does not disappoint bringing the same style she made us fall in love with from the start but showcases her musical growth as an artist. Throwback Thursday!

Happy Thursday! The weekend is just around the corner once again. So know it is time to celebrate with another "Throwback" video pick. This week video pick is a little bitter sweet because it is from the late Whitney Houston. Yesterday marked the third anniversary of her death. So I felt is was important to look back and listen to that legendary voice and celebrate the musical legacy she left behind. I would also like all of my loyal "Stars On The Rise" follower to pray for her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown as she is fighting for her life right now. #prayforbk. I hope you enjoy this trip back in time. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

MCM

Happy Monday to all if my lovely followers. I hope you are starting your week off on the right foot and a positive note. I hope everyone tuned in and watched the Grammy awards last night and congrats to all of the winners. It is once again time to pick another MCM video of the week so let's get right down to business. This weeks video comes from J Cole. I am loving his new album " 2014 Forest Hill Drive". I love how he is constantly evolving as an artist and not afraid to take risk. That in my opinion is the mark of a great artist in the making. So I hope you enjoy! Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo.

August Alsina

Happy Wednesday! Once again we are at the halfway mark in the week before we get to our favorite time of the week. Of course I am talking about the weekend but before we get to that we have to take care of some very important business of picking another "Artist Of The Week". This weeks artist that I feel is putting his own unique spin on R&B music that I am enjoy a lot. His name is August Alsina. August Alsina Jr. was born on September 3, 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana. August was inspired by music artist like Lauryn Hill and in 2007 he started posting videos on YouTube. What really pushed him to pursue his musical dreams was his tough upbringing and dealing  his brother being shot to death in 2010. In 2011 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia with a mission to break into the music industry.   August is current signed to Def Jam Records and released his first studio album on April 15, 2014 called "Testify". He has also got a few awards under his belt pickings "Best New Artist" at the 2014 BET Awards. What got my attention was his song "I Luv This S**t". I feel he has an amazing voice and his music is able to make you get up and move, can help to put you in that romantic mood and provide some life lessons as well. Another thing I love about August and his music is that it is authentic, raw and truthful. Most importantly it is his story and his truth and it really come across in his music and his sound. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!
