Artist Of The Year

Hello to all of my loyal Stars On The Rise viewers the moment you have all been waiting for has finally come! It is time to name the Artist Of The Year 2013! I have listened to everyone’s input and I think we are all in agreement on who this year’s artist should be. Let me first say their were a lot of great artist that Stars On The Rise have featured on this blog this past year and their will a lot more in 2014. I must say each one of these artist brought something special to the table and I wish I could pick them all for this honor. With all of that being said it is time to crown this years Artist Of The Year! So drum roll please! This years Artist Of The Year is Ariana Grande!!!

Their were so many reasons why Ariana Grande was chosen as this years Artist Of The Year. She has a break out year in music that caught everyone by surprise. She proved that she was a lot more than the comedic actress that we have come to know and love from the Nickelodeon hit shows Victorious and Sam & Cat. She is an undeniable vocal prodigy. She has been compared to vocalist like Mariah Carey and with her break out single “The Way” she proves she has a sound and image that appeals to the public. She is creating and expanding her music career success with another hit single called “Right There”. As well as a breakout performance at the 2013 American Music Awards were she also picked up the award for Best New Artist. Ariana has proven she has the talent to make the music world fall in love with her. I look forward to seeing a lot more from this budding music star. Once again we have closed out another great year of exciting music artist and I look forward to bring you many more next year. Keys To Artist Management

Hello to all of my loyal Stars On The Rise followers as you know 2013 is coming to a close. So pretty soon I will be logging off until the New Year, but every now and then I go outside the usual Artist of the Week and In the Spotlight to bring you topics that interest me within the music industry. The topic that is catching my attention is artist management. Artist management is that delicate balance of getting what your artist wants with what the record label needs. This is a job that appears to not be for the faint of heart. I feel to be an effect artist manager you have to be willing to give your all to that artist to make sure the artist is happy and making sure they are making the best career choices and have the best opportunities to help further their career. So if you are planning on working in the field of artist management there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

1.     Passion: Every good manager needs to have passion for the artist that they are representing. Before you can get anyone else to believe in your artist you have to believe in the artist, and the talent they have.

2.     Drive: You have to be willing to stop at nothing to do what is in the best interest of your artist.

3.     Good Instincts: You have to know when to follow your instincts and keep an ear to all things going on in the music industry. This is important so you can make sure your artist is able to go after every available opportunity to help further his or her career.

I think that these are at least three of the things needed to be an effective artist manager. It is a job that you have to love to do to survive in the crazy music industry world. I also think you have to have a strong love for helping talented artist reach their superstar success. That is why I started this blog I love finding new talent and I am happy when I see an artist that I blogged about doing well in their career. I hope you guys enjoyed this special blog post. The Value of Knowing How To Negotiate

Hello to all of my loyal blog followers and I hope everyone is having a great weekend to prepare for the upcoming workweek. As you all know Stars On The Rise is dedicated to shining a lot on music artist that I feel that are going to be the next big thing in the music industry. From time to time I like to post about other topic that I feel are key elements of the music industry and today’s blog post is know different. In this special blog post we will be discussing the art of negotiation.
Being an effective negotiator is just as important within the music industry as in any other form of business.  So for this blog post I research and viewed three video presentations on three different negotiation topics that I felt were important to anyone who wants to be an effective negotiator. Those topics include Positional bargaining, Mutual benefit and BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement). So I hope you are sitting down and have a pen and paper to take notes. I think you about to get some helpful information to help you in your next big negotiation.
On of the first video I watch was by the author of the book Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In William Ury. In this video he talks about some of his many travels around the world in different types of negotiations situations. He also goes over the principles and tools that he believes are important to being an effect negotiator. One of the important tool or topic he discusses is positional bargaining. When he brings ups the topic of positional bargaining he brings up to important things that are important in this tactic. When dealing with any negotiation you need to remember to listen and be respectful to the other party. Positional bargaining requires you to listen to the other party’s side to understand the other side’s point of.  William Ury points out that the most common mistake that people make when negotiation is that they talk more than they listen. So remember when dealing with positional bargaining listening is very important for this tactic.
The next video I viewed was by women named Margaret Neale. In the video titled Negotiation: Getting What You Want.  This video focused on two different topics that include mutual benefits and women in negotiations. Margaret talks about the role of women and how they are view when it comes to negotiations and the tool and techniques that women should use to be more effective negotiators. Margaret talks about the importance of the mutual benefit in negotiations and the steps and research needed to get to the mutual benefit that will help both parties. The key to the mutual benefit tactic is to do the research to find the common goal or a benefit for both parties so you get what you want and the other party is getting something in return. This is an important part of this tactic that can make or break a negotiation.
In the last video that I view it talks about and discussed the topic of BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement). In this video Stephen Stuart who is the president of the Humanist Society of Victoria in Australia.  He discuses how to be an effective negotiator. He goes over and reviews the methods in the book Getting Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving. He focuses in on the topic of BATNA and how it should be used.  He also discusses how the tactic should also be avoided. He stresses the importance of having a back up plan if a negotiation starts to fail or break down. It is also equally important to never have to use it.
All of these tools are very important to have an effective negotiation. I think in my own personal negotiation to help me have much more effective negotiation. What I have learned is that before any negotiation you do your research, come prepared and always have a back up plan.  I hope that this information was helpful to each of you. But before we get to all of that trick or treating let get down to business of pick another "Artist Of The Week" This week I have pick a up and coming boy band that goes by the name SJ3. The little that I was able to find out about them was that they are 3 best friends who bring a different element to the group. Tone, DezZ, and K.T who are all from New Jersey bring R&B, Pop and Hip Hop together to come up with their sound. To me their is something special about them I can't quite put my figure on what it is. I think they have a slight maturity in their sound but are still able to relate to their audience. They don't seem to be just another boy group or band to come off the assembly line. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember you can follow me on twitter at @StarsOnTheRise or like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

She has performed in  Fame, The Lion King and Hair in Switzerland and Germany. She is currently represented San Marino. Bridget Kelly

Hello to all of my wonderful Stars On The Rise fans. It is time to pick another wonderful “Artist Of The Week” This weeks artist is a young female who has a soulful blues quality to her vocal tone. This very soulful songbird goes by the name Bridget Kelly. Bridget Kelly was born April 8, 1986 in New York City!  It appears that music was apart of Bridget’s life plans because she was a graduate from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan.  In 2009 she was signed to Roc Nation.  This was just the being of Bridget music career. Bridget has regularly filled in for Alicia Keys when performing the song Empire State of Mind with Jay-Z. Kelly also performed with Jay Z during a performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009. She performed at Coachella Arts & Festival with Jay-Z during Empire State of Mind, as well as Bonnaroo Music Festival in summer 2010. Kelly also performed Empire State of Mind with Jay-Z on Saturday Night Live on May 8, 2010. Bridget made her first magazine cover appearance in the September 2010 issue of Honey Magazine. In the interview to go along with the cover shoot, she describes her music as a fusion of R&B, soul and rock with influences coming from Alicia Keys, Alanis Morissette and Pink. In late July, Roc Nation stated on the official site that Kelly is closing her album up and the first single will be the Frank Ocean-penned "Thinking About Forever". An acoustic video of her debut single "Thinking About Forever." was released in August 2011. What got my attention about Bridget Kelly was her song called “Street Dreamin” featuring Kendrick Lamar.  What I love about her is her soulful upbeat style. I think she has the talent and ability to sing just about anything. I also hear the same kind of blues quality that is similar to Amy Winehouse. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Throwback Thursday!

It is time to go back in time for another music video classic. This week I have pick a video by a female artist you might know. She is known as the "Princess of Hip Hop & R&B.  I am pretty sure you have a guessed I am talking about Ashanti. I think we can all remember hearing hear all over the radio in the early 2000's. So let go back in time with one of her first big hits " Foolish". I hope you enjoy enjoy it! Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

Anna Kendrick

It is that wonderful time in the week when we pick another "Artist Of The Week"! I feel that this weeks pick is kind of different and kind of unique. It is a female we no best for acting ability. It is none other than Anna Kendrick. Anna Kendrick started her career at the age of 10, when she caught a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City so that she could attend auditions. Kendrick's first acting role was as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society in August 1998 when she was 12 years old, a performance for which she won the Theatre World Award and was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award making her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee. She rose to international fame after her performance as Natalie Keener in Up in the Air (2009), for which she received Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress. Her other notable roles include Dinah Lord in the Broadway musical High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award; Fritzi Wagner in Camp (2003), Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga (2008–11), Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Beca Mitchell in Pitch Perfect (2012), Jill in Drinking Buddies (2013), and as Cinderella in Into the Woods (2014). What got my attention about this very talent was of course her singing chops in the movie "Pitch Perfect" but what really made me take notice wall the cute video for the song called "Cup". I think she really show that she is more than a one trick pony. I think music style is kind of playful. I think that is something is missing for the music industry. So take a listen and tell me what you think. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)

Hello Everyone! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. Once again I am coming to you with another informative blog post. This time around I will be discussing a very important association to the music industry, the music artist and the music that we love to listen to. The Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA) is a trade organization that supports and promotes the creativity and financial music properties of major music labels. This association is also responsible for awarding gold, platinum and diamond certification to music artist for their music selling accomplishments.

After visiting the RIAA website site I discover that it is a very informative place for people who are working or want to work within the music industry. This website keeps you up to date about current music artist music as well as the success of the current song or album by that particular music artist. Another thing I found quite interesting about this site was it works with a program called Music Matters. This program is designed to help educate consumer about music piracy. But what makes this program special so special is that it does not just educate and preach the stealing digital music is wrong. It offers fun options to find listen and purchase your favorite music artist music without stealing it.

As a person who is interested in becoming apart of the music industry that find and discover new talent and helps to bring them to the worlds attention. This is a great association and website for me to have a connection to. It will help me keep up with current music trends and keep me educated on new ways to help protect the creative work that those artists have worked so hard on from being stolen. I think anyone who is interested the music industry should check this association out. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @StarsOnTheRise and like my page on Facebook just look for the logo!
